LEGAL
ASSISTANT-
FULL-TIME-
JON KATZ, P.C., is replacing its first-rate legal assistant, who starts law school this fall. We are conducting a rigorous in-depth search for his replacement, which will include up to two or three interview sessions. The selected candidate will start work on June 1, 2009, unless an earlier date is negotiated, and will be interviewed and trained by Jon Katz, our current full-time legal assistant, and our part-time legal assistant.
Our full-time legal assistant works 8:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Some overtime work is needed to complete assignments timely and accurately.
You will be Jon Katz's right-hand person covering all the firm's administrative functions; handling various paralegal assignments, including legal research; and being in constant contact with existing and potential clients.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor's degree or its intellectual equivalent. We prefer candidates with prior successful experience with private law firms handling litigation. We will wish to speak in depth with references before making a final hiring decision.
For the right candidates, this position is unique and highly rewarding in return for successfully tackling fast-paced, litigation-driven deadlines. Attention to both detail, the big picture, and everything in between is essential.
The candidate must be a team player who is calm and caring with common-sense smarts.
We seek to maintain the high quality of our current support staff, even though our full-time legal assistant is moving on to law school. At the very minimum, success in this position requires success with strong relevant communication, organization, loyalty to the law firm and its clients, promptness arriving at work on time and in turning in assignments, accuracy and productivity. The fast pace of work is at once stimulating and challenging. Our experience is that successful candidates are excited about all aspects of the job at the beginning and retain that excitement along the way. Our clients put their faith and liberty in our law firm's hands and pay us substantially to do so; they expect and are entitled to first-rate work at every turn.
You will assist with cases from
beginning to end, including substantial client
contact and direct client assistance, scheduling, researching cases, legal
research, drafting court filings, handling correspondence and banking matters,
preparing for trial, drafting subpoenas, handling general administrative
matters, and assisting in court from time-to-time.
This position requires prior successful secretarial or administrative assistant experience, preferably with litigation work in a private law firm, and a desire to serve the clients and causes we serve.
In return, you will get a rare, stimulating, and rewarding opportunity to serve true justice, to learn the art of persuasion in trial law practice, and (if you are considering law school) to get a leg up on your future legal career or deciding whether law school is for you. We will train you.
Pay is competitive and is complemented by performance-based bonuses where merited.
We
typically receive dozens of applications for posted legal assistant openings,
and recommend that you help make your application stand out through the
