Regular Underdog readers know that I have posted several help wanted notices during the past few months. Some were an effort to replace my longtime full-time assistant due to his always-known plan to go to law school, where he currently is at. Today's ad for a full-time legal assistant is to add to my current staff of two excellent part-time assistants.
I believe in showing my proper appreciation to those who send successful job candidates my way. I print our full help wanted ad here, because my blog entries get picked up by Google more quickly than do my static webpages.
What is a typical day like?
There is no typical day at our law firm. We are like a hospital emergency room, providing efficient and specially-tailored service to each client. Among the work that will always be needed each week is legal research, the drafting of court filings and correspondence, substantial client contact, multitasking with a busy phone and assignments, trial preparation, keeping files well-organized, handling scheduling with courts, keeping on top of deadlines and assignments, and keeping the office running smoothly, whether it be ordering supplies, working with our phone and computer technicians when we have technological problems.:
Our minimum requirements for this job are people who truly want to -- and are able to -- serve the foregoing goals, and who also have the following:
- Complete street smarts and intellectual smarts. We require college experience or the intellectual equivalent.
- At least one year or more of successful administrative experience, with private law firm litigation experience a big plus. We will check the references of the successful candidate before making a job offer.
- The ability to work well and undistracted in a fast-paced, high-energy, caring workplace. Except for your lunch hour and break-time, this is a FaceBook and MySpace-free zone.
- The ability to work calmly under pressure, and to deal well with the occasional callers and visitors who are so wrapped up in their own problems that they sometimes have trouble being pleasant.
- Meticulous adherence to effective communication, good organization, loyal and dependable work, promptness, and productivity.
In return, our employees get:
- Excellent training.
- Excellent teamwork experience with Jon Katz and our two other staff members.
- Competitive pay, bonus and benefits package based on your experience and performance. We pay towards your parking and health insurance, and provide paid vacation and holiday time.
- A very rewarding boost to your career.
- Deep appreciation and recognition for successful work and results.
- For law school-bound people, a leg up on your future law school. experience.
