Apr 02, 2016 Police dashcameras and body cameras do not tell the whole story
Police dashcameras and body cameras do not tell the whole story of what happened in an incident. They do not show a complete global viewpoint, do not necessarily catch all sounds, do not show what is happening behind the police officer’s camera nor visuals of what is blocking the camera or outside of the field of the camera. They do not show what happened before and after the audio and video started and stopped running, nor what is relevantly happening a mile away.
This recent New York Times article, with video replays, underlines all this, and the misperception at risk for jurors viewing incident videos.
