I frequently blog about the power of mindfulness in my life and legal practice. Mindfulness is simple to learn for its basics, and requires devoted practice to fully reap its benefits. Advanced and more powerful stages of mindfulness can be reached by daily practice and by learning from great teachers. My best teachers for mindfulness have been my taijiquan teachers, Sharon Salzberg, Ram Dass and Alan Lokos. In two months, I will attend the Mindful Lawyering retreat north of Manhattan, and am particularly excited that dharma teacher Norman Fischer will be among those leading the gathering. In 2012, I attended my first mindful lawyering weekend retreat.
A great and simple way to learn mindfulness practice is to read Jon Kabat Zinn’s Mindfulness for Beginners and to watch his YouTube videos.
