Healing “means learning to live in a different relationship with … suffering”

Dec 27, 2010 Healing “means learning to live in a different relationship with … suffering”

It is not always enough for me to help externally harmonize my client’s imbalanced situation if I do not also help my client further pave the way to healing internally from the imbalance.

Claude AnShin Thomas is a great teacher in this regard, having healed externally long ago from his many physical wounds during the Vietnam War, but having suffered deep psychological scars during the path from being a World War II veteran’s son, to fighting and causing and experiencing extensive and deep violence in Vietnam, to becoming a Soto Zen mendicant Buddhist monk.

In his essential video here, Brother Claude says: "Healing does not mean the absence of suffering… [It] means learning to live in a different relationship with this suffering."
