Feb 08, 2015 Our website rarely is unreachable – It is running again after being down up to 30 minutes tonight
My law firm’s website is so infrequently unreachable, that I have not yet migrated our website to a website hosting company that will provide me a redundant backup server to assure our website is reachable no matter any Internet crash. I have stayed with my same website hosting company for many years, because it is not clear that another company will do better or as well, and my current website hosting company treats me as an individual and not as a number or dollar sign. Nevertheless, if you have a good site hosting company to recommend that provides such redundancy, please let me know.
Three main factors can cause my website to be unreachable. One is a hardware failure at my site host, which happened tonight. The second is when hardware is being upgraded at my site host. The third is when excessively high bandwidth is being consumed on my website.
My understanding is that the Internet started as a rather fragile network spearheaded by the federal military function. Today, the Internet is at constant risk of attacks by hackers and others. Under such circumstances, society relies too heavily on the Internet, including websites and email. With all that has been invested in the Internet, though, we probably are at the point of no return.
