Wisconsin trial judge invalidates citation for having no permit for a small singing gathering in the state capitol rotunda

Feb 11, 2014 Wisconsin trial judge invalidates citation for having no permit for a small singing gathering in the state capitol rotunda

A Wisconsin trial judge last week dismissed, on First Amendment grounds, a criminal citation for violating a law requiring a permit for as few as 21 to gather in the state capitol rotunda, here to join a singing protest. The judge said that no sufficient justification was shown for requiring a permit for as small a gathering as that. The case is Wisconsin v. Crute. Congratulation to fellow First Amendment Lawyers Association member Jeff Scott Olson for this win.
