Flex Your Rights adds Fairfax Criminal Lawyer to its Advisory Board

Flex Your Rights has added me to its eight-member Advisory Board. As a Fairfax Criminal Lawyer, I am honored to be joining such civil liberties fighters as Ira Glasser (Drug Policy Alliance president and past longtime ACLU executive director) and Billy Murphy, who is a great trial lawyer whose boundless devotion to criminal defendants has inspired me for over a quarter century.

Fairfax criminal lawyer advocates watching, disseminating, and applying the lessons of Flex Your Rights’ Busted video

I first learned about Flex Your Rights around thirteen years ago, as a result of their timelessly essential Busted video (free on YouTube). Watching and applying the lessons of Busted can spell the difference between being arrested and not, being convicted or acquitted, and getting a harsh sentence (if convicted) or a more favorable sentence.

A shorter primer than Flex Your Rights’ video is in my rights sheet and rights video.

Fairfax criminal lawyer on the effectiveness of the Busted video

Flex Your Rights has branched beyond the Busted video in empowering people with the knowledge to even the playing field in dealing with the police. At the same time, Busted remains one of my favorite teaching tools for criminal suspects. The video in particular does a great job at showing the drastically different results that can come from asserting one’s rights and not, with the police. My point of departure with Busted is that the actor suspects in the “right approach” scenarios speak too much. Silence is golden with the police.

Deeply thanking and bowing to Flex Your Rights’ Steve Silverman and Scott Morgan.
